Boy, is it tough!

Its tough being a boy. Yes, it is.

Am i supposed to be silent and unfeeling? Is that what a man should be? Shouldn't a gentleman be gentle and considerate and gallant and chivalrous and polite and loads of other stuff?? Or is that all outmoded now? If a girl says, 'You're so nice!', does that make me a loser?

Its hard to strike a balance between sensitivity and machoism. I'm constantly torn between my conscience, which makes me jump every time somebody needs help(especially females) and my fear of being ridiculed by my friends for not sneering at them(which seems to be the current trend).

I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings, so i constantly apologise to anyone i come in contact with. But then i kick myself the rest of the day because i feel i might have come off as a wuss what with the number of times i do it. I know people are gritting their teeth and praying for that ass to leave them alone but i can't leave it to chance! I can't hope that nobody's feelings were hurt by what i said! I must know. Or if i can't, i gotta apologise for the possibility of it happening.

And i know exactly who is to blame for all this! Its Enid Blyton! Her books were the first place i learned the word 'Etiquette' and decided to try it out. What was a novelty, now causes me endless headaches! Much better to have been a neanderthal. no complications. Oh well! Too late for that now isn't it.

Chin up mate, there's a good life ahead of those who are 'nice guys'. Keep you eyes on the prize and do not get distracted by the here today, gone tomorrow attitude of our society. Considering others feelings and needs more important than your own is, in essence, why we exist. Show all people love, by showing them respect, and you will be rewarded. God loves a cheerful giver (especially when he is giving of himself).

Thanks chum. Makes me feel a lot better about life.

It may sound corny, but the happiness i can spread by being nice is what makes it all worthwhile. I'm not holding out for any rewards, though it wouldn't be a bad thing if that did happen. ;)
